# Restricted Regions

Where trading is unavailable, what you can still do from a restricted region, and why the list exists.

Strix Lab is not available for trading everywhere. Where we can't offer it, we restrict **opening new positions** rather than shutting the door — you can still browse markets and get your funds out.

### What's restricted, and what isn't

{% columns %}
{% column %}

#### ✅ Always available

* Browsing markets, prices and charts
* Viewing your portfolio and history
* **Cancelling** your open orders
* **Merging** matched YES + NO back into USDC
* **Redeeming** winnings from resolved markets
* **Withdrawing** your USDC
  {% endcolumn %}

{% column %}

#### ⛔ Not available

* Creating an account
* Placing new orders
* Splitting USDC into outcome shares
* Generating API keys
  {% endcolumn %}
  {% endcolumns %}

{% hint style="success" %}
**You can always get your money out.** Cancels, merges, redemptions and withdrawals are never region-gated — deliberately, so that anyone affected by a change to this list can unwind their positions and leave.
{% endhint %}

### Restricted jurisdictions

Access is determined from the network location your connection originates from.

#### Regulated markets

Jurisdictions where prediction markets require a licence we don't yet hold, or where the regulatory position is unresolved:

<table><thead><tr><th width="120">Code</th><th>Country</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><code>US</code></td><td>United States</td></tr><tr><td><code>GB</code></td><td>United Kingdom</td></tr><tr><td><code>FR</code></td><td>France</td></tr><tr><td><code>BE</code></td><td>Belgium</td></tr><tr><td><code>PL</code></td><td>Poland</td></tr><tr><td><code>TH</code></td><td>Thailand</td></tr><tr><td><code>SG</code></td><td>Singapore</td></tr><tr><td><code>TW</code></td><td>Taiwan</td></tr><tr><td><code>AE</code></td><td>United Arab Emirates</td></tr></tbody></table>

#### Sanctioned jurisdictions

Comprehensively sanctioned territories, where access is restricted as a matter of law:

<table><thead><tr><th width="120">Code</th><th>Country</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><code>IR</code></td><td>Iran</td></tr><tr><td><code>CU</code></td><td>Cuba</td></tr><tr><td><code>KP</code></td><td>North Korea</td></tr><tr><td><code>SY</code></td><td>Syria</td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="warning" %}
**This list changes.** Regulation moves, and we update the list as it does — sometimes at short notice. A region being available today is not a commitment that it will remain so, and a region being restricted today may open later. This page is the current list; check back rather than assuming.
{% endhint %}

### How it works

When you open the site from a restricted region you'll see a banner, and the trading controls are disabled. The restriction is also enforced on our servers, so requests to open new positions are refused with a "not available in your region" response no matter how they're sent.

### Common questions

<details>

<summary>I'm travelling through a restricted country. What happens?</summary>

Access is based on where your connection is, not where you live, so trading will be unavailable while you're there. Your funds and positions are untouched — you can still view your portfolio, cancel orders, redeem and withdraw, and you'll be able to trade again once you're back in an available region.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I use a VPN to get around it?</summary>

No. Misrepresenting your location to access the platform is a breach of our Terms of Service, and can result in your account being restricted. If you're in a restricted jurisdiction, the exit paths — cancel, merge, redeem, withdraw — remain open to you without one.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I already hold positions and my country was just added. Now what?</summary>

Your positions stay yours. You can hold them to resolution and redeem the winnings, or merge matched YES + NO back into USDC, and withdraw at any point. You simply can't open new ones.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why is my country on the list when other platforms operate there?</summary>

Different platforms hold different licences and make different legal judgements. Our list reflects where we can operate today with confidence, and it's deliberately conservative — we would rather restrict a market and revisit it than operate somewhere we shouldn't.

</details>

<details>

<summary>The banner appears but I'm not in a restricted country.</summary>

Network-level location isn't perfect — corporate VPNs, satellite links and some mobile carriers can route your traffic through another country. Try a direct connection, and if it persists, [contact support](/resources/faq.md) with your approximate location and we'll look into it.

### Nothing here is legal advice

This page describes where our service is available. It doesn't tell you whether trading prediction markets is lawful for you personally — that depends on your own circumstances, and it's your responsibility to know. If you're unsure, take your own advice.
